"Food Sovereignty is an affirmation of who we are as Indigenous peoples and a way, one of the most surefooted ways, to restore our relationship with the world around us." - Winona Laduke

The Wind River Food Sovereignty Project is a community-led program working to create a vibrant food system on the Wind River Reservation designed by its community members. We are working to acquire a 30-acre farm that will host a demonstration farm, a Land-to-School Learning Garden, and provide a center for community members to gather, grow and learn.

Food Sovereignty affects everyone. Reclaiming control over our food systems means deciding how we feed ourselves and where our food comes from. It improves community resilience and ensures the health of our families, communities, land and water. For Native families it also means reconnecting to the land, to our ancestral knowledge, and to our spirituality, and allows us to determine our own health and well-being.

We are fundraising with a goal of $650k to cover the purchase price, upgrades and 2 years of operating costs for the Trout Creek Farm property, a 30-acre farm at the base of the Wind River mountains.
